Earth Angels

Since this is my 44th posting, numerically supposedly signifying angels, I will write a brief excerpt on ‘earth angels.’ Though I’m not an expert, I believe that there truly are 'earth angels,' people like (you?) and I who roam the earth with a kind and gentle heart performing good deeds and being of service.

My motto is "one kind deed a day" as much as possible when I remember as sometimes I forget! Usually I do this spontaneously though. It could be as simple as giving directions or donating items or volunteering.

One such earth angel that immediately comes to mind is my friend Linda K. I met her in an interesting way after I temporarily misplaced my bus pass last year. As I take the bus to and from work, it would add up a lot if I had to pay for bus fare separately so I posted online and within a very short time, I received an email. I was shocked and yet delighted!

We have since maintained our friendship as I decided she was so peppy, positive, sweet, and kind that I didn’t want to end the relationship. Linda, undoubtedly, has a heart of gold, always being of service to her family and friends. Sometimes I actually think too much!

I’m honoured and delighted to know and have such a friend like this in my life. She constantly reminds me of the value of kindness and compassion - even karma - as consequently everyone wants to support her and offer her ‘gifts.’ (In my case, it is usually feeding her dinner, occasionally giving her items, and providing information and referrals to people, places, and events that may interest her. Service begets service!)

How are you an earth angel to others?

  1. Elly, your post makes me think of earth angels I've encountered in my life thus far. Some of these, I encountered over 40 years ago, yet I've always remembered their special brand of kindness. One magical feature of an earth angel can be that they enter and leave your life within a very short time span - as in a few minutes, or a few hours. An angel can be a stranger who provides a smile from a loving heart at just the person who needs to receive that gift on a difficult day. An angel can be an innocent child who reminds us of the child we hold within our own being and enables us to feel our own innocence again. An angel can be a beloved pet. My daughter had a huge, gentle English mastiff who assumed the role of being her bodyguard. I looked at him one day and said "I know who you are, Rupert. You're an angel, aren't you?" His sentient, piercing look into my eyes was all the answer I needed.
You ask how we are earth angels to others. We have our ways, don't we... I know I've been one for certain folks, often people I don't know, in 20-second encounters, and it's given me a quiet joy. I believe it costs nothing to be kind. Simple consideration of others can have an angelic effect. I'm not out here to earn any wings, I'm simply grateful for the levity Life offers; for the feathers I feel so often fanning the air around me; and for the entire cherubim on high as well as the cherubim here on our earthly plane.
Botticelli painted a beautiful rendition of angels in The Mystic Nativity - his angels have a way of enlightening even the heaviest of hearts. May yours be lifted, in love.

    1. I know it's been awhile though I did originally respond to your comment a few days later (Dec. 22nd); however, I had forgotten to hit "reply" so you didn't get my message. I originally said, "Thank you for your comments Wind Woman, expressed so eloquently. Yes, I had originally meant to say that it could be as simple as sharing a smile or giving someone a hug. Blessings, Elly" :) <3

  4. p.s. I had written this post relatively quickly being a busy season and all and my original title came to me intuitively, "Calling All Angels, Earth Angels that Is!" However, I didn't feel that this captured the essence of what I was going to write so I changed it to this simple title.

  5. Aweee, thanks Elly Pie! ***blushing***

But you make the best pancakes....EVER!
I'm sorry Elly, it was all for the pancakes!

    1. Eek, a late reply, my apologies 'Anonymous' ;) Though I am glad you love my pancakes, you helped me out first, remember? ;) <3
